The Onyx
Chamber Players, based in Seattle and Chicago, are gaining
recognition for their fresh interpretations of masterworks from the
Classical era. Onyx combines a unique blend of early music performance
style with the brilliance and virtuosity of modern instruments. Their
goal is to perform with a transparency of sound and clarity of musical
concept, peeling away much of the 20th century heaviness that has
infused many readings of these masterworks. Audiences and critics alike
have hailed their musical energy, the exciting chemistry among the
players and the musical intensity Onyx brings to their performances.
Onyx Chamber Players are known for their insightful programming,
presenting performance cycles of the complete works of Beethoven, Mozart, Brahms and Mendelssohn at Town Hall Seattle.
Their Haydn/Mendelssohn series in '09-'10 received rave reviews in The
Gathering Note and their Mozart cycle in 2007 was featured in the Seattle
Post-Intelligencer (please see Reviews page). Onyx Chamber Players have been frequent guests on the radio, appearing
live on KUOW-FM and KING-FM in Seattle.
"These gifted artists and their rich display of these jewel-like works lift us into that glowing world of special illumination which music lovers dream of and only seldom find." - Bernard Z. Friedlander, Concert Reviews Online
